India's coal output falls 9.5% YoY in May despite record power demand

India's production of all types of coal totalled 78.13 million tonnes in May, falling 9.5% year on year despite a 5.1% rebound from the previous month, the latest data from the country's Ministry of Coal showed.
Coal India Limited (CIL), the country's largest state-run coal mining group, produced 56.13 million tonnes in May, down 11.6% on year and almost unchanged from April. The company contributed 71.8% of the country's total output last month.     Singareni Collieries Company Limited, the second-largest state-owned coal miner, produced 4.51 million tonnes
