CHN Energy opens sea-river coal route to inland Guangxi plants

China Energy Investment Corporation (CHN Energy), the country's top coal and power group, has started moving coal inland to its Liuzhou power plant in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region through the Pinglu Canal, a route that uses a combined sea-river waterway via the Xijiang River, part of the Pearl River system. The canal was officially opened on September 16, serving as a more cost-effective solution for the energy firm's coal transport, Mysteel Global notes.

The Pinglu Canal is the first world-class canal built in China since 1949. It runs 134.2 kilometres from the Pingtang River mouth in Hengzhou, Nanning in south China's Guangxi province, south through Lingshan county in Qinzhou in the same province and along the Qinjiang river into the Beibu Gulf.
