GACC: China's Feb thermal coal imports fall 3.3% YoY

China's imports of thermal coal in February fell by 3.3% on year to 24.15 million tonnes, data from the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) showed. However, the total had slumped by 20.9% from a month earlier.

China's coal market has been mired in oversupply for months, leading to swelling inventories at ports and utilities. This, coupled with an unseasonably warm winter that led to lower-than-expected coal consumption, contributed to decreased demand for thermal coal imports, sources noted.
