MYSTEEL: Guinea's Axis mine suspension sparks bauxite supply concerns

The suspension of mining operations in Guinea’s Axis area -- home to projects with a combined annual bauxite capacity of around 40 million tonnes, including SD Mining -- has heightened market concerns over near-term bauxite supply, Mysteel has learned.

The halt follows a government directive issued on May 16 by the local mining bureau, after a presidential decree revoked 51 mining licenses granted between 2005 and 2023.
