China's manganese ore prices edge up slightly

China's manganese ore prices increased slightly over December 18-24. Mysteel assessed the price of South Africa-origin 36.5% grade manganese ore at North China's Tianjin port at Yuan 34.5/dmtu ($4.9/dmtu) including the 13% VAT on December 24, up Yuan 0.2/dmtu on week.

Chinese manganese ore traders raised their offering prices amid higher import costs. However, spot market transactions had slowed recently, as downstream alloy smelters were reluctant to purchase additional manganese ore after observing fluctuations in the silicomanganese (SiMn) futures market, Mysteel Global learned. By Wednesday, the most-traded SiMn contract on the
