MYSTEEL: China's ferrous scrap demand to pick up in 2026

China's demand for ferrous scrap is expected to expand this year, according to Mysteel's latest forecast report on the market for 2026, which argues that the steel sector's increasingly pressing requirement to transition to low carbon production will further promote electric-arc-furnace (EAF) steelmaking in the country.

For 2025, China's total ferrous scrap consumption had dropped slightly by 0.7% from the previous year to 256.9 million tonnes, Mysteel estimates.
