NBS: China's coal output slips in Jan-Feb with regional divergence

China's raw coal production edged lower in January-February, as continued enforcement by government authorities in key mining regions against overproduction constrained supply. This came despite demand showing unexpected resilience and indicating inventories were being drawn down across the supply chain.
Total raw coal output fell 0.3% year on year to 762.9 million tonnes in the first two months of 2026, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
