South Africa's ferrochrome exports plunge in Feb as industry headwinds persist

South Africa's exports of high carbon ferrochrome (HC FeCr) totaled 98,968 tonnes in February, down by 19.5% from January and by 54.3% year-on-year, according to the latest data from the South African Revenue Service (SARS).

The significant drop in the country's HC FeCr exports was caused mainly by low domestic smelter output and port logistics bottlenecks, Mysteel Global understands. Also, as China is the largest export destination for South African ferrochrome, the likelihood of weaker Chinese demand during the Chinese New Year (CNY) holiday in
