For lithium carbonate, the futures price surged in the first trading day post Labor Day holiday partly because the anticipated supply shortage started to take shape. Mysteel's survey suggested that China's lithium carbonate production in April came in nearly 3,000 tonnes below initial schedules, primarily because smelters relying on externally sourced ore and some tolling lines were affected by tight lithium ore supply. This feedstock constraint is expected to persist through May and June.
