For nickel ore, medium-to-high grade ore prices in the Philippines continued to decline, with 1.3% grade CIF offers at US $49/wmt, down about US $1/wmt during the week. Indonesian domestic ore prices fell by about US $5/wmt in July, and premiums had approached the floor. The RKAB supplementary quota new policy officially opened its application window on July 1, with only the full month of July available for submitting supplemental production increase applications. New quotas were required to be tied to domestic Indonesian smelting capacity owned by the applicant. Applications from pure mining companies without downstream processing capacity were likely to be rejected, and the actual incremental volume would depend on the pace of case-by-case approvals. At the NPI end, the market remained in a high-level stalemate. Spot offers stood at Yuan 1,170/mtu, with forward offers at Yuan 1,160/mtu, and trading was quiet. Spot resources available for open-market transactions tightened further.
