WEEKLY: China's thermal coal prices log biggest weekly plunge in months

Spot thermal coal prices at China's northern transfer ports posted their sharpest weekly decline in months during June 29-July 3, as high port inventories, weaker coastal demand and widening import arbitrage jointly weighed on the market.

As of last Friday, Mysteel assessed the benchmark 5,500 kcal/kg NAR thermal coal at Yuan 822/tonne ($121.1/t) FOB northern ports with VAT, down Yuan 29/t from a week earlier. The 5,000 kcal/kg and 4,500 kcal/kg NAR grades each fell Yuan 30/t to Yuan 730/t and Yuan 631/t, respectively. The inventory
