DAILY: China's thermal coal downtrend slows, sentiment improves

China's thermal coal market ended the July 9 session with a milder decline, as portside sentiment turned more balanced with emerging signs of bottoming out such as continued inventory drawdown and improving trading activity.

On Thursday, Mysteel assessed 5,500 kcal/kg NAR thermal coal at northern ports at Yuan 802/tonne ($118/t) FOB with VAT, down just Yuan 2/t from Wednesday – a smaller daily decline compared with Yuan 5-8/t in the first week of this month. The 5,000 kcal/kg NAR grade also eased Yuan
