South Africa's August coal exports jump 19.5% YoY

South Africa shipped 6.22 million tonnes of coal in August, down 1.1% from July but 19.5% more than a year earlier, South African Revenue Service (SARS) data showed.

Asian buyers took 5.39 million tonnes, or 86.6% of the total. Europe accounted for 410,665 tonnes, or 6.6%, and Africa for 388,655 tonnes, or 6.2%. By country, India remained the largest buyer in August, with shipments there reaching 1.84 million tonnes, or 29.6% of the total, up 4.9% from July
