DAILY: China's portside thermal coal eases as spot trade slows

Thermal coal market at northern Chinese ports weakened on October 26, as several days of subdued trading prompted sellers to lower offers to attract buyers. Meanwhile, continued price declines in major producing hubs eroded cost support, further encouraging traders to soften their offers.

On Monday, Mysteel assessed 5,500 kcal/kg NAR thermal coal at Yuan 1,035/tonne ($155.2/t) FOB northern ports, including VAT, unchanged from last Friday. The assessment for 5,000 kcal/kg NAR coal also held steady at Yuan 933/t, while that for 4,500 kcal/kg NAR coal fell by Yuan 2/t to Yuan 832/t.
