MYSTEEL: Seaborne thermal coal retains clear price edge over Chinese domestic coal

Seaborne thermal coal remains significantly cheaper than comparable Chinese domestic coal delivered to South China, new Mysteel data shows, although the gap could narrow as domestic prices fall and Indonesian miners hold their offers firm.

On October 29, Mysteel Global assessed Indonesian 3,800 kcal/kg NAR coal at Yuan 680/tonne ($102.1/t) CFR South China, including VAT, compared with Yuan 737/t for equivalent domestic coal, leaving a price gap of Yuan 57/t. The spread had widened from around Yuan 46/t in mid-October, making imports more competitive.
