China starts power houses’ carbon quota trading on Jul 16


China has formally launched the national carbon emission quota trading system and start e-trading simultaneously among the country’s over 2,000 power houses first at 0930 (Beijing time) on July 16, with the trading in two daytime sessions on Monday-Friday.
The purpose of the launch is to “reduce greenhouse gas emission and promote green and low-carbon development via market forces”, and this will also act as a “crucial policy tool to achieve carbon emission peak and carbon neutral”, according to Zhao Yingmin, vice-minister of Ecology and Environment shared on July
