CONF: FMG to cut FBF, SSF supplies by 20 mln t/y in 2021

Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) will proceed with its iron ore product optimization in the next few years by further reducing the capacities of Fortescue Blend Fines (FBF) and Super Special Fines(SSF) by 20 million tonnes/year at the start of 2021, Dai Jianqiu, General Sales Manager of FMG in China, said at Mysteel’s 2nd Steelmaking Raw Material Forum in Tangshan, North China’s Hebei province, on July 25.

“The total capacity of FBF and SSF, thus, will be reduced by 50 million t/y in total since 2017 by then,” he emphasized, and in exchange, FMG will expand the capacity of its higher-grade West Pilbara Fines (WPF) to around 40 million t/y in December 2020 from 18-20 million
