Nippon Steel files lawsuits on NGO electrical steel patent

Nippon Steel, Japan’s largest integrated mill, has filed lawsuits against Japan’s largest automaker - Toyota Motor, and Baoshan Iron & Steel (Baosteel) - the listed arm of the world’s and China’s top steel mill China Baowu Steel Group, alleging their infringements of Nippon Steel’s patent relating to non-grain oriented (NGO) electrical steel sheets, according the Japanese steel mills’ release on October 14.

In the lawsuits filed to Tokyo District Court on October 14, Nippon Steel is requesting for the compensation on damages of approximately Yen 20 billion ($175.58) to each, and it also seeks banning Toyota from manufacturing and selling motor-driven vehicles equipped with motors using (NGO) electrical sheets that infringes Nippon Steel’s patent,
