Nippon Steel starts trials on new EAF at Hirohata

Nippon Steel, Japan's largest integrated mill, has started hot-run trials on the new electric-arc-furnace (EAF) in the Hirohata Area of its Setouchi Works in western Japan, and plans to start commercial production by March 2023, a company official said on Monday.

The new EAF, the first the integrated mill has installed, has a rated capacity 60,000 tonnes/month and is set to produce high-quality steel products such as electrical sheets.
