Jianlong's Malaysia joint venture adding new slab caster

Malaysia's Eastern Steel, majority owned by China's Shanxi Jianlong Industry, has tapped Italian plant builder Danieli to build a new 1.6 million tonnes/year slab caster at its Kemaman integrated works in Terengganu, West Malaysia, Danieli announced on August 12.

The caster, to be the second installed at the works, will reach casting speeds of up to 2.5 m/min for 200-mm-thick slabs in widths ranging between 700 and 1,300 mm, Danieli says, and should be commissioned by early 2023. The new caster is part of Eastern Steel's ambitious expansion plan
