ArcelorMittal restarts two European steelmaking facilities

ArcelorMittal, the largest European steelmaker, has restarted production at two European facilities within 48 hours of each other this week, namely a blast furnace in Spain and a galvanizing line in Belgium, as the steelmaker moves to restore capacity across the region.

Both moves come against a backdrop of recovering European steel demand supported by new EU trade protection for its steel industry, under which tariffs on steel imports exceeding permitted quotas will be doubled from 25% to 50%.
