China's NDRC approves another large coal mining area in Ordos

China's state planner has approved plans to exploit a large coal mining area in Ordos City, the largest thermal coal producing hub in North China's Inner Mongolia, Mysteel Global has learned. In a brief announcement issued on November 6, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said its granting of exploration approval was to facilitate the release of additional coal production capacity in Ordos and to help ensure coal supply.

The Dongsheng Coalfield covers 591 sq km in the Nalinxili mining area, according to official data, and has coal reserves estimated at 10.3 billion tonnes. The plans call for the operation of four 8 million t/y-capacity coal mines for an annual total of 32 million tonnes. The NDRC statement
