India mandates BIS for stainless steel, aluminium utensils, ensuring safety, quality in kitchenware

The Government of India has taken a significant step to improve kitchen safety, quality, and efficiency by mandating compliance with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for stainless steel and aluminium utensils. As per the Quality Control Order issued by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, on 14 March 2024, it is now compulsory for such utensils to bear the ISI mark, with non-compliance carrying penalties.
