Russian Railways' coal shipments fall 6.2% YoY in Jan-Oct

The volume of coal transported by Russian Railways (RZD), Russia's state-run rail monopoly, during this year's January-October period dropped by a marked 6.2% on year to reach 273.4 million tonnes, data from the rail company show. Nevertheless, coal still accounted for a large 27.7% of the company's volume of all bulk commodities transported during the same months, according to RZD data.

The lower shipping volume of coal reflected the lingered impact of escalated US sanctions on the country's coal mining and shipping activity this year, as well as the challenges of pricier shipping costs that suppliers were facing, market sources said.
