China Energy to halt thermal coal imports, sources say

China Energy Investment Corporation (China Energy), the nation's largest power and coal producer, is poised to temporarily suspend thermal coal imports to reduce its high stockpiles of the fuel at transfer ports and accelerate the sale of its domestic production, which experienced a sharp decline in January, sources familiar with the matter said.

A senior official from a power group in South China, who requested anonymity, confirmed the suspension to Mysteel Global. However, the official did not disclose the duration of the halt.
