China Energy, Mongolian Railway in long-term coal transport pact

On June 25, a train carrying 3,328 tonnes of coal departed from Mongolia's largest opencast coal base Tavan Tolgoi and successfully cleared customs at China's Ganqimaodu port later that day after rail and short-distance road transit, marking the official launch of a long-term coal transport partnership between China Energy Investment Corporation and the Mongolian Railway State-owned Joint Stock Company, according to the latest release from China Energy on June 27.

Specifically, Guoneng Coking Coal (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Energy, and the Mongolian Railway State-owned Joint Stock Company signed a long-term transportation agreement on May 14, 2025, envisioning a total transport volume of 247 million tonnes of coal over 16 years, as reported by Mongolian news outlet
