On July 14, Panasonic Energy, the battery business division of Panasonic Holdings, announced the official opening of its new lithium-ion battery plant for electric vehicles in Kansas, USA. The plant has commenced mass production of 2170-type battery cells, with plans to eventually reach an annual production capacity of approximately 32 GWh.
The plant was built in November 2022, covering an area of about 1.2 million square meters. Meanwhile, it is expected to employ up to 4,000 workers directly, while creating around 8,000 jobs in total.
