IAI: Global primary Al output drops to 6.05 million t in June

The average daily global output was 201,500 tonnes last month, down by just 0.07% from the previous month, Mysteel Global calculated based on the IAI data.

China, the world's largest primary aluminum producer, contributed 3.63 million tonnes in June, accounting for approximately 60% of the global total. The volume marked a 3.2% decline from May but a 1.7% rise from June 2024, according to the IAI.

However, this output was 180,000 tonnes lower than the total calculated by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) which showed that the country's primary aluminum production in June reached 3.81 million tonnes. According to the NBS, it was down by 0.5% on month but up by 3.4% on year.

During June, Europe (including Russia) retained its position as the world's second largest production region, with output registering 575,000 tonnes for a 0.2% on-year uptick.

The five Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries – Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates – ranked third globally in June, producing a combined volume of 504,000 tonnes, down by 2.5% from a year earlier.

During the first half of 2025, global primary aluminium output totalled 36.46 million tonnes, marking a 1.4% rise from the January-June period in 2024, the IAI data showed.
