Aluminum Global Production
Global primary aluminum output rose to 6.37 million tonnes in July, higher by 3.2% from June and by 2.5% from July 2024, according to new data from the International Aluminium Institute (IAI). This followed a 3.3% on-month decline in June and marked the highest monthly output level since the IAI began tracking the data in January 1973, Mysteel Global noted.

On a daily basis, average global output in last month stood at 205,581 tonnes, generally flat compared with the prior month with a marginal 0.09% dip, Mysteel Global calculated based on the IAI data. IAI did not explain the discrepancy between the monthly and daily output data but July has one extra day than June.

China remained the world's largest primary aluminum producer by contributing an estimated 3.87 million tonnes in July, about 60.8% of the global total, the IAI data showed. The figure represented a 3.2% rise from the previous month and a 4.3% increase from a year ago.

However, IAI's estimate was 91,000 tonnes higher than the volume reported by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), which put the domestic July output at 3.78 million tonnes. The NBS data showed that production was down by 0.8% on month but up by 0.6% on year.

During the same month, primary aluminum output in Europe (including Russia) reached 596,000 tonnes, ranking second globally and marking a 0.2% uptick from July last year.

Meanwhile, producers in the five Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries – Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates – together produced 520,000 tonnes, down by 2.4% from the same month last year and ranking third.

Over January-July 2025, global primary aluminum output totalled 42.72 million tonnes, up by 1.3% from the first seven months of 2024, the IAI data showed.
