FLASH: South Korea's trade commission recommends ADs on Japanese, Chinese HRC imports

The Korea Trade Commission (KTC) recommended to South Korea's Ministry of Economy and Finance on Thursday that preliminary anti-dumping duties be imposed on imports of Chinese- and Japanese- carbon steel and alloy steel hot-rolled coil (HRC), according to Korean and Japanese sources. The finance ministry will decide whether to apply the provisional ADs by late August.

The KTC recommended that provisional penalties of between 31.58% and 33.57% be imposed on Japanese HRC and duties of between 28.16% and 33.1% be applied to Chinese coils.

The KTC is reacting to a complaint lodged by South Korea's second-largest steel company, Hyundai Steel, claiming that the influx of low-priced HRCs from China and Japan has damaged the local steel market, as Mysteel Global reported.
