JFE, JSW set to dominate India's market for GOES

The recent announcement by JFE Steel, Japan's second largest steelmaker, and India's largest steelmaker JSW Steel of plans to significantly lift the combined capacity of their two Indian joint ventures producing grain-oriented electrical steel (GOES) has more significance than JFE's rather bland statement might suggest. For starters, the Japanese mill's GOES foray in India will gobble up a large chunk of its global 'growth investment budget' allocated under its current 2025-2027 business plan.

Last week on August 4, JFE had announced that it and JSW – the Japanese mill's 15% affiliate – were planning to significantly boost production capacity of their 50/50 JVs making and selling GOES in India to 350,000 tonnes/year, as Mysteel Global reported. The two ventures are JSW JFE Electrical
