According to the latest news on September 8, Chinese battery manufacturer CATL's factory in Hungary is expected to begin production in early 2026. The company's General Manager for Europe market stated that CATL is looking to the region for growth.
CATL has invested €7.3 billion (approximately Yuan 60.941 billion at current exchange rates) in Debrecen, eastern Hungary, aiming to expand battery production in Europe for automakers such as BMW, Stellantis, and Volkswagen.
The report noted that the new facility will be significantly larger than CATL's existing European battery production plant in Thuringia, Germany, with a planned annual capacity of 100 GWh and 9,000 employees.
Shen Qi, GM of CATL for Europe, said that the company currently aims to start production in Debrecen by the end of this year or early next year, within the next four to five months.
