South Korea finalises AD on most Chinese heavy plates

South Korea's year-long anti-dumping investigation into imports of China-origin carbon steel heavy plates is nearing its end, with Korea's Ministry of Economy and Finance giving interested parties until this coming Friday to comment on its decision to impose duties of up to 34.1% for five years, Mysteel Global has learned. The outcome is significant because Seoul has demonstrated a degree of flexibility that might emerge again when settling future trade disputes.

The case relates to an AD probe launched in early October 2024 by the Korea Trade Commission (KTC) in response to a petition filed by domestic heavy plate maker Hyundai Steel. In February this year, the KTC found that imports of Chinese plates had caused damage to domestic producers
