Simandou's first ore shipment heads for China

A bulk carrier loaded with 200,000 tonnes of high-grade iron ore from the massive Simandou project in Guinea, West Africa, set sail from the Port of Morebaya on December 2 (local time), according to a news release Wednesday from Aluminum Corporation of China (Chinalco), a stakeholder in the Simandou project's northern mining blocks 1 and 2. The vessel is bound for China and marked the maiden commercial shipment of iron ore from the world's largest untapped deposit of high-grade iron ore, the company said.

The ship, named Winning Youth, is a Capesize bulk carrier with a dead weight capacity over 200,000 tonnes. It was designated as the first vessel to carry Simandou iron ore to the international market.
