On January 15, the UNIDO-IWIP Sustainable Nickel Industrial Park, jointly established by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP), was officially launched. This marks a substantive step forward in implementing the Joint Declaration on Sustainable Development of the Nickel Industry Chain signed by both parties in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Representatives from UNIDO, the Indonesian Ministry of Industry, international and Indonesian industry associations, downstream clients, financial institutions, media, and park enterprises gathered to witness this significant moment.
According to the cooperation plan, over the next three years, with guidance from UNIDO, IWIP will align with United Nations standards and best practices to deepen collaboration in areas such as eco-industrial parks, community development, industrial skills enhancement, and green mineral supply chains. IWIP will mobilize surrounding mines, communities, park enterprises, and industry chain partners to jointly create a replicable and scalable model for a sustainable nickel industry chain.
