According to the latest news, BYD is accelerating its expansion in the Latin American market, with its Brazilian plant having secured export orders totaling 100,000 vehicles from Argentina and Mexico.
BYD's Brazilian plant officially commenced production on July 1, 2025. Located in Camaçari, Bahia, in northeastern Brazil, the facility currently has an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles, with plans to increase this in phases to 600,000 vehicles. The plant will produce plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles, including models such as the Dolphin Mini, BYD King, and Song Pro.
Concurrently, BYD will invest 300 million Brazilian reais (US$53 million) to build an R&D center in Rio de Janeiro. Construction on the center is scheduled to begin this year and be completed in 2028. It will be equipped with capabilities for testing vehicle speed, power, range, and performance, and will also collect tropical climate data to assist BYD in developing new products and tailoring technologies to the local market.
