On April 7, the 1 GW Phase I of the CGN Laos Northern Interconnection Clean Energy Base--the largest single photovoltaic project in Southeast Asia developed and built by China--was connected to the grid and commenced commercial operation.
The project is the first large-scale mountainous PV project in Laos. Once fully operational, Phase I is expected to generate approximately 1.65 billion kWh of electricity annually, saving about 500,000 tonnes of standard coal equivalent and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1.3 million tonnes per year.
