Australian govt trade-case review favors Shandong AZ coated steel maker

A review conducted by Australia’s Anti-Dumping Commission has supported a request made by Chinese coated sheet maker, Guanxian Chuangsheng New Materials Co., Ltd, that it be granted ‘new exporter’ status and so be spared the full extent of AD (anti-dumping) and CVD (countervailing duties) measures Canberra is imposing on imports of aluminium-zinc coated steel shipped by other Chinese traders and steelmakers. Whether Chuangsheng’s success prompts more companies in similar circumstances to request such reviews will be interesting to watch.

The case stems from an AD investigation Australia had launched in 2012 into aluminium-zinc coated steel (≥600 mm in width) imported from China, South Korea, and Taiwan, and a countervailing investigation launched against imports from China the same year.
