In Glencore's recently released first-quarter production report, nickel production stood at 32,300 tonnes (including third-party feed), down 4.72% quarter-on-quarter and down 5.56% year-on-year. This included 24,200 tonnes of nickel briquettes and 8,100 tonnes of nickel briquettes. The New Caledonia ferronickel project remained under care and maintenance, with zero output.
Nickel production from the company's own resources was 17,200 tonnes, a decrease of 1,600 tonnes (or 9%) compared to the first quarter of 2025, mainly due to a furnace failure at the Sudbury mine in 2025, which affected the shipment cycle of nickel matte to Norway.
INO:
Own-source nickel production was 9,300 tonnes, down 1,100 tonnes (or 11%) from the first quarter of 2025, also reflecting the impact of the 2025 Sudbury smelter furnace failure on the shipment cycle of nickel matte to Norway.
Murrin Murrin:
Own-source nickel production was 7,900 tonnes, down 500 tonnes (or 6%) from the first quarter of 2025, primarily due to preparatory work ahead of a planned refinery shutdown in the second quarter of 2026.
In addition, Glencore's 2026 nickel production guidance is 70,000-80,000 tonnes.
