According to Mysteel, Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) held a public hearing on May 8, 2026, disclosing a proposed adjustment to nickel ore production fees (royalties) under Government Regulation PP 19/2025.
The key changes include a more granular tiering of HMA nickel price brackets and corresponding rate adjustments. The number of price tiers will increase from five to six. Within the core price range of US $16,000-26,000/tonne, royalty rates are generally proposed to rise by 1-2 percentage points compared to current levels. The proposal is currently in the public consultation phase, and the final implementation plan awaits official issuance by ESDM. Market attention remains on the timing of the new regulation and its specific implementation details.
