PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTAM) recently released its first-quarter 2026 production report. Ferronickel production reached 3,976 wet metric tonnes (wmt), up 44.32% quarter-on-quarter but down 11.61% year-on-year. Nickel ore production stood at 3.4 million wmt, up 4.54% quarter-on-quarter but down 26.63% year-on-year.
In Q1 2026, ANTAM's ferronickel performance was mainly affected by two factors: first, raw material supply linked to the RKAB nickel ore quota, with the company only receiving full quota approval in March 2026; second, scheduled equipment maintenance during the quarter. Despite these challenges, ANTAM maintained production continuity and held its position in export markets.
On the nickel ore front, before the full RKAB approval in March 2026, the company continued its production plan based on the old quota at the start of the year, maintaining rigorous operational management throughout the period. In Q1, all of ANTAM's nickel ore sales were directed to the domestic Indonesian market: part was used to meet internal raw material needs at its Kolaka ferronickel plant, while the remainder was sold to third parties, primarily supplying raw material to domestic nickel smelters.
