NBS: China's coal mining, washing industry profits surge 41% YoY in H1

The combined profit of major enterprises in China's coal mining and washing sector reached Yuan 210.72 billion ($31.1 billion) during the first six months of this year, rising by 41.1% on year, according to the latest data issued by the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS) on July 27. The NBS defines major enterprises as those with annual primary business revenues of Yuan 20 million or more.

Operating revenue for the industry totalled Yuan 1,359.8 billion in January-June, up 9.3% on year, the NBS data show. The profit improvement was driven by margins rather than volumes. National raw coal output fell 1.7% year on year to 2.37 billion tonnes in the first half, official data showed, yet
