FLASH: Longi sets 28.29% silicon cell record

Longi unveiled a world-record conversion efficiency of 28.29% for its Hybrid Interdigitated Back Contact (HIBC) single-junction silicon solar cell at an event in Europe on September 24 local time. The result was verified by Germany's Institute for Solar Energy Research Hamelin (ISFH). The record extends the efficiency frontier for crystalline silicon technology, although laboratory results do not translate directly into commercial performance. Commercial-scale yield, stable output and production cost for the record structure have not been disclosed.
