BHP reports stronger coal-price realization, higher output for Q1 FY27

Australian mining company BHP reported strong increases from a year earlier in realized prices for both coking coal and thermal coal during July-September, the first quarter of its 2027 financial year. On-year growth was also recorded for both coal types during the quarter, according to the company's latest operational review released on October 20.

The average realised steelmaking coal price for BHP jumped 34% on year to US$242.82/tonne in the July-September quarter, which was also up 4% from the preceding three months. For BHP's exported thermal coal products, the achieved price averaged US$116.6/t, up 23% on year despite a 1% dip on quarter.
