China added 170 GW of combined wind and solar capacity in January-September, accounting for 67.8% of the country's 250 GW of new generation capacity, the China Electricity Council reported. Total electricity consumption rose 3.9% to 8,070 TWh. The council expects full-year demand of about 10,800 TWh and more than 350 GW of new generation capacity, lifting total installed capacity to about 4.3 TW by year-end. The outlook supports solar demand, but the council warned that local peak-period supply could tighten under severe cold waves. Renewable absorption and grid flexibility therefore remain central to converting installations into stable generation.
