The Jiangmen Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau announced on November 2 that the environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the technical transformation project of Jiangmen Fangyuan Recycling Technology Co., Ltd., designed for an annual output of 20,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium carbonate, has been accepted.
The project plans to adjust its existing production capacities of 50,000-tonne high-end ternary precursors, 5,000-tonne battery-grade lithium hydroxide, and 5,000-tonne battery-grade lithium carbonate. After the adjustment, the ternary precursor material capacity will be reduced from 50,000 tonnes to 25,000 tonnes. And an additional 20,000-tonne lithium carbonate output will be added, bringing total lithium carbonate capacity to 25,000 tonnes. In addition, the lithium hydroxide capacity will be eliminated.
The latest adjustment mainly involves three aspects. First, process optimization will be carried out on some ternary precursor material production lines to reduce the amount of synthesis and lower the dosage of nickel source. Second, the existing lithium hydroxide production process will be eliminated, and the freed-up lithium solution resources will be redirected to lithium carbonate production. Third, the existing wastewater treatment system will be upgraded, with a new separate treatment unit for raffinate added.
