WEEKLY: China's EAF mills lift output as margins improve

After a brief retreat during the previous week, steel production among Chinese electric-arc-furnace (EAF) steelmakers rebounded during December 12-18, as improved profit margins encouraged more mills to restart operations, the results of Mysteel's survey showed.

During the latest survey period, the average capacity utilization rate among the 90 independent EAF steel producers under Mysteel's regular tracking increased by 1.6 percentage points on week to reach 54.3%, while their average operational rate rose by 1.5 percentage points to 69.2%. A few mini-mills completed regular maintenance in
