On December 25, the price of electrolytic cobalt surged Yuan 14,528/tonne to Yuan 425,889-428,500/tonne from the previous trading day. Meanwhile, the price of cobalt chloride moved up Yuan 1,000/tonne to Yuan 110,000-114,000/t while that of cobalt sulfate remained stable at Yuan 90,000/t-95,000/t.Recently, the cobalt sulfate market has shown a pattern of firm prices but declining trading volumes. Raw material supply remains tight with high prices, putting significant production pressure on smelters and prompting them to maintain a firm pricing stance. On the demand side, downstream users have adopted a cautious procurement strategy, focusing primarily on drawing down existing inventories. Recent transactions for older stock have mostly been concluded above Yuan 88,000/t, while quotations for new stock have generally risen to over Yuan 90,000/t. There remains a notable price gap between buyers and sellers, leading to a market dominated by small-volume transactions.
