Port Hedland July ore shipments to China dip 8% MoM

Iron ore shipments to China from Port Hedland, Western Australia’s top iron ore terminal, decreased by 3.4 million tonnes or 8% on month to around 38.6 million tonnes in July after rising for the two prior months, according to data released by the Pilbara Ports Authority (PPA) on August 11. However, the total was still 1.2% higher than the volume despatched in July 2020.

Hedland’s iron ore shipments worldwide posted an even more substantial on-month decline of 12% to about 44.3 million tonnes last month, though still 1.5% higher on year. As a result, last month the shipments to both South Korea and Japan, the second- and third-largest destinations for Port Hedland’s iron ore, dropped remarkably on month,
