Taiwan's Dragon Steel plans furnace reline

The board of Taiwan's leading integrated steelmaker, China Steel Corp (CSC), has approved a plan to spend TWD 7.78 billion ($260 million) to reline the No.1 blast furnace at its wholly-owned subsidiary, Dragon Steel Corp. However, CSC is giving stakeholders plenty of warning about the refurbishment project, with Monday's meeting agreeing that the work should be undertaken sometime between July of this year and end-2025.

Dragon Steel, located at Taichung on Taiwan's west coast, blew in the No.1 furnace in February 2010, so the unit is due for a reline, Mysteel Global notes. The unit, together with the Taichung works' No.2 furnace started in 2013, were both supplied by UK-based plant builder Primetals Technologies
